Katie's Birthday

I'm using Christmas vacation to catch up on the blog before the year runs out.
In November, Katie turned 9.

Good Morning 9-year-old!

The night of her birthday we had my parents and sister, Megan over for a celebration.
(See the banner of balloons along the curtains?  Another super easy idea from Pinterest.  I used a needle and thread to stream them together.)

Katie was super excited to receive this drawer organizer.  She has piles of notebooks and papers and she loves to play school.

Katie is very much into writing.
At her request, Grandpa made a blue pencil cake.

Looking a bit more sophisticated.

I found these photo props on clearance at Wal-Mart for 50 cents for the whole package.  We stuck some wrapping paper on the wall and had a little photo fun.

The next day Katie had 6 guests over for a friends party.
Our first ever.
Ben was out of town but Megan came to help me while Annabelle and Natalie went to play at my parents's house.
It worked out great.
We put together binders for each guest and asked them to bring a school picture.  They filled out a profile of themselves and then did various activities like a custom "Katie's Birthday" word search and a Mad Lib about her Birthday.  She wanted a lot of writing activities.  I found this fun paper table cloth that is meant to be drawn on.  It came with tic-tac-toe squares, connect the dot games etc.  It worked well into her theme.
We played pin the eraser on the pencil. They each decorated their own eraser to keep track of them.

Pizza and soda for lunch.

Ice cream sundaes for dessert.

We finished up all the planned activities and still had about an hour left.  The girls enjoyed playing with Katie's gifts she had just opened and hanging out talking.

Katie's birthday was simply mah-velous.
